What this site collects, why it collects it, and how long it is kept.

Draft — awaiting sign-off

This statement describes what the site does technically, which is accurate as built. The organisation’s legal contact details, retention periods and the identity of the data controller still have to be confirmed by CRRIC before launch.

Browsing this site

Reading the Observatory requires no account. The public pages set no advertising or analytics cookies and the site carries no third-party tracking scripts. Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap, which receives the requests needed to serve those tiles.

Reporting an incident

The report form can be submitted anonymously. A name and an email address are optional, and exist only so a reviewer can come back with questions; you choose whether we may contact you and whether we may quote you. Those details are never published, never shown on the map, and never shared with another organisation. Files you attach are stored outside the public website and can only be opened by a signed-in reviewer; they are never given a public link.

Reports that are not published are kept for review for up to twelve months, after which contact details and files are deleted. Access to the editorial system is by individual account and is logged.

The description and source link you provide are what a reviewer assesses. If the report is published, the published record contains the incident, not your identity.

What appears in a published record

Published records describe events, not private individuals. Locations are given as a municipality and placed at an offset point within it, never at an address. Where a source names a person, the Observatory records the event and the source link rather than reproducing the name, unless that person is a public figure acting publicly or the naming is part of a court record.

Corrections and removal

If a record about you is inaccurate, or you believe it should not be published, write to us through the contact page. Records can be corrected, marked Disputed, or withdrawn and marked Removed / Withdrawn. Every record already carries an evidence level stating how strongly it is supported — see the verification page.

Open data

The public JSON and CSV exports contain the published records and no reporter details.
